CD by Ghenady Meirson
Rachmaninoff’s transcriptions of The Brooklet, Lilacs, Daisies,
Hopak, Minuet (L’Arlesienne Suite) and music by Chopin,
Mendelssohn, Granados, and Moscow-based Vladimir Ryabov
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) March 1, 2005 -- PrivateLessons.com today
released a debut CD by pianist Ghenady Meirson. The album entitled
Songs & Dances lists for $16.95 and is available for sale online
at PrivateLessons.com (http://www.PrivateLessons.com) Artists Place
and by phone at 1-888-387-8273.
“Since this is my first effort as a recording artist and producer,
half of the music on the CD turned out to be first and only
takes,” said Meirson. “An immediate comment from my editor
George Blood, who generally accepts nothing less than two takes,
‘that’s because you are a performer.’ Looking back, I did
treat the recording process just like a concert performance --
recording in a concert hall, playing a Steinway grand and feeling
like a nervous wreck.”
Songs & Dances album contains 15 short pieces, exploring songs
and dances by various romantic and 20th century composers including
Chopin, Mendelssohn, Granados, Rachmaninoff and Ryabov. “I wanted
to produce a CD that would appeal to people of diverse levels of
music appreciation and tastes,” adds Meirson. “At a recent IAJE
Jazz Educators Conference, as a matter of informal market test, I
played the CD for jazz musicians who were instantly attracted to
Rachmaninoff’s harmonies in Daisies and Lilacs.” While
professional musicians may appreciate the difficulty of some of the
pieces, the CD is easy to listen to, offering haunting melodies and
musical variety.
